JOANNA WALLFISCH – I turn down roughly 1000 musicians a year for representation, but could not pass up this newest addition to the MarsJazz roster, a very special Jazz/Folk singer-songwriter who Fred Hersch has hailed as “a first-rate musician in every way.” Joanna has a gorgeous, evocative voice, poetic lyrics that tell a story, great beauty and stage presence, and an overall musicality that comes from being the daughter and younger sister of renowned classical musicians. After graduating from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music in her native London, Joanna then moved to NYC, where she worked with luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, recorded 2 CDs with pianist Dan Tepfer that made Downbeat’s list of the Best CDs of the Year in 2015 and 2016, and was recently mentioned by Ted Gioia in his list of 150 Jazz Masters in early to mid-career.
Now based in LA, Joanna continues to tour globally, enchanting audiences wherever she goes. She performs solo, duo and trio with top flight Jazz musicians, and her Great Song Cycle, chronicling her 1200-mile bike ride and tour down the U.S. west coast, is now out in both CD and book form, and is the subject of recent feature articles in the Wall Street Journal and the August Downbeat.
