| Grammy-nominated soprano saxophonist/flutist Jane has introduced a lot of Great Cuban musicians to North American audiences over the past couple of decades, including Dafnis Prieto, Yosvany Terry, Pedrito Martinez, and David Virelles. Now she has assembled an exciting new sextet, MAQUEQUE, featuring the finest young women musicians in Cuba. Maqueque consists of JANE plus virtuoso drummer Yissy Garcia, violinist and lead vocalist, Elisabeth Rodriguez, bassist Celia Jimenez, pianist Danae Olano, and Magdelys Savigne on percussion. All are great vocalists as well as instrumentalists, and the pure Joy they express in live performance creates a natural high for the audience too. Their eponymous debut CD won the 2015 Juno award in Canada for Best Jazz Recording, and their new CD Oddara just received a Grammy nomination! This is a very popular Festival band, and has already been invited to perform at Newport next year, so get on the bandwagon while they're still affordable!
