Jimmy Greene
Avenir Light is a clean and stylish font favored by designers. It's easy on the eyes and a great go-to font for titles, paragraphs & more.
I’m really happy to invite multi-reed virtuoso Jimmy to the MarsJazz roster. A master of all the saxophones, Jimmy combines the soulfulness of his gospel upbringing with chops honed at the Hartt School under the guidance of one on my musical heroes, Jackie McLean. A longtime member of the great bassist Ron Carter’s quartet, Jimmy also leads his own quartet, quintet and big band. His groups perform original compositions which have been recorded on the Mack Avenue, RCA Victor, Criss Cross and Sunnyside labels and have garnered many awards and grants over the years.
In 2012 Jimmy experienced personal tragedy which has become all too frequent in this country when his 6-year-old daughter Ana was murdered along with 25 others at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Instead of becoming morose and embittered, Jimmy’s faith and music enabled him to channel his emotions into the Grammy-nominated Mack Avenue recording Beautiful Life, which celebrated Ana’s bright and eternal spirit. Dedicating his life and art to his family foundation’s message, ‘Love Wins,’ Jimmy is often asked to speak as well as perform at conferences, symposiums and churches.
A gifted educator with a doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music and over a decade of experience as professor and coordinator of the jazz studies program at Western Connecticut State University, Greene is in demand as a guest artist, clinician and guest lecturer at music schools and universities worldwide. Invite him to your town and experience one of most inspirational artists and human beings you will ever meet. For more information on Jimmy, please visit his website, www.jimmygreene.com
