He’s been described as a cross between Bobby McFerrin and Kurt Elling (who listed J.D. as one of his favorite vocalists in a cover story on Kurt in JazzTimes), but that’s not really fair because J.D. is 100% himself. He’s got the whole package: a soulful, memorable voice, great intonation and rhythm, interesting original tunes and arrangements of standards, and the stuff he does with looping has to be heard to be believed – mind-blowing scatting over his own vocal bass lines and rich, multi-layered
harmonies. Long popular in Europe, J.D. now finally has the support he needs to break out in the U.S., thanks to his new long-term deal with Arkadia Records, which has pledged tour support as well as advertising. Now’s the time to discover one of the most unique artists in Jazz.
